Volunteer Healthcare Corps (VHC)
The Volunteer Healthcare Corps (VHC) is an initiative of the HIV/AIDS Twinning Center designed to bring highly qualified professionals into supporting roles in Twinning Center partnerships and other projects funded by the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.
The VHC places qualified individuals at host organizations that need the long-term, onsite presence a volunteer can provide.
Most opportunities are for trained doctors and nurses, but allied health professionals such as social workers, health educators, lab technicians, pharmacists, nutritionists, and mental health workers are also needed. Additional opportunities may exist for information technology, management, operational development, and other specialists.
Assignments range from three months to two years. During that time, VHC volunteers put their knowledge and skills to use helping scale up existing services and jumpstart new projects in support of the President’s Emergency Plan and national HIV/AIDS strategies of host countries.
The HIV/AIDS Twinning Center provides each VHC volunteer with a roundtrip coach plane ticket, local transportation, safe and secure housing, vaccination expenses, visa and work permits, medical evacuation, and a living allowance.
