Overview
The HIV/AIDS Twinning Center’s Volunteer Healthcare Corps (VHC) is an initiative that provides highly qualified professionals with the opportunity to work on the front lines of the global war against HIV/AIDS.
The Twinning Center places qualified individuals in VHC assignments at host organizations that want and need the long-term, onsite presence that a volunteer can provide.
VHC volunteers help scale up existing services and jumpstart new projects in support of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and of their host countries’ national HIV/AIDS strategies. They serve as catalysts for sustainable change as they transfer knowledge and skills through joint operations with local counterparts. They provide health services, spearhead educational campaigns, and offer technical assistance. In doing so, each VHC volunteer makes a meaningful difference in the global fight against AIDS.
Assignments typically range from three months to two years in duration. Most opportunities are for trained healthcare professionals—not just doctors and nurses, but social workers, health educators, lab technicians, and others as well. For example, some opportunities may be available for volunteers to work in information technology, management, and operational development.
Placement site needs and volunteer skills are closely matched to ensure a rewarding experience that brings measurable results to the host organization and the community it serves.
