Ethiopia - Web Developer

OVERVIEW OF VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENT


In-country placement site:
EPHA is a membership organization of more than 2,000 health professionals in Ethiopia .  Their main office is located in the Dembel office building on Bole Road in Addis Ababa.

Volunteer assignment:
Web developer to plan, develop, and create EPHA Web site based on association needs

Length of the assignment:  2 months 
Name and title of supervisor: Dr. Ashenafi Negash 
Name and title of counterpart: TBD

Volunteer Qualifications:
Required:

  • BS in computer science or certification in Web design and relevant work-related experience
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in Web design, preferably for a membership association
  • Experience providing training and hands-on support in Web site maintenance
  • Fluent in English and Amharic
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and Web site design software applications

Preferred: 

  • A self-starter, with strong written and oral communication skills
  • Previous experience working in a low-resource setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to develop cooperative working relationships

OBJECTIVE OF THE VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENT


Objective
The objective of the Web site developer is to increase the capacity of EPHA to provide information and resources to its members by assisting in the development of the association’s Web site and providing training to association staff on Web site design and analysis.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENT


Volunteer responsibilities:

  • Develop a Web site outline in coordination with EPHA staff
  • Design, program, and create the EPHA association Web site using available software
  • Train association staff on basic Web site design and analysis to ensure site can be maintained after the completion of the volunteer assignment
  • Provide ongoing support to association staff via email and telephone consultation for Web site maintenance and updates

EXPECTED OUTCOMES OF THE VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENT


Deliverables

  • Outline for EPHA Web site
  • EPHA Web site
  • Training agenda for EPHA staff to maintain and update the Web site
  • Report number and names of trained EPHA staff

RESPONSIBILITIES OF PARTICIPATING STAKEHOLDERS


Volunteer:

  • Complete the scope of work in the timeframe outlined
  • Complete Twinning Center’s monitoring and evaluation report on a monthly basis
  • Adhere to the AIHA Volunteer Standards of Conduct

Placement organization/institution: EPHA

  • Provide resources necessary for the volunteer to carry out assignment successfully
  • Identify a placement site at EPHA for the volunteer to ensure sustainability of volunteer activities
  • Submit performance assessment reports on the volunteer to the Twinning Center

AIHA Twinning Center:

  • Conduct pre-assignment orientation and training for volunteer and placement site staff
  • Provide volunteer with safe housing, monthly living allowance, medical evacuation insurance, and travel-related costs to and from placement site 
  • Provide ongoing support of volunteer as needed
