Pharmacists play a key role in HIV/AIDS clinical care, so this university-to-university partnership is working to strengthen AAU's capacity to provide high quality pre-service and in-service training to support ART scale up throughout Ethiopia.

Debre Berhan Hospital / Elmhurst Hospital Center

Partners are collaborating to improve hospital services - including treatment, care, and psycho-social support - for PLWH in Debre Berhan's catchment area. They are also working to increase patient involvement as a means to improve quality of care and better ensure adherence to ARV treatment.

Members of this hospital-to-hospital partnership are working to improve the quality of HIV/AIDS care by developing both human resource and organizational capacity at Ambo. Key objectives include establishing an infection control program and strengthening coordination of care services to improve patient retention.

Namaacha Health Center and Esperanza-Beluluane VCT Center / University of California - San Francisco School of Nursing

Partners are implementing "prevention with positives" programs in two distinct community-based settings: a healthcare clinic and a VCT and peer support center. They are also expanding these successful prevention services to Mozambique's Sofala and Zambezia provinces.

Brits Hospital / Foundation for Professional Development

This south-south partnership, which graduated in September 2007, focused on improving ART and related services at Brits Hospital HIV/AIDS Clinic and its affiliated referral sites. The partnership initiated ART for 1,831 patients; expanded VCT services to four referral sites; and greatly improved care and support services for PLWH in South Africa's North West Province.

Partners are strengthening FPD's training capacity to improve HIV-related care and services at the clinics it supports, as well as developing a cadre of nurse leaders who can serve as technical experts and mentors for implementing a new HIV Nurse Case Management Model.

Partners are working to strengthen the Centre's ability to collect, analyze, and report scientific data on HIV and TB infections in South Africa's Free State. Once disseminated, this research will inform policy and practices in the province and throughout the country.

In partnership with the Zambia Institute of Mass Communication Educational Trust, this innovative initiative focused on improving the accuracy, quality, and scope of HIV/AIDS-related coverage in mass media outlets throughout Zambia and other PEPFAR-supported countries by training journalists and editorial staff.

Zambian Defense Forces / San Diego Navy Medical Center

Building on an existing relationship between the Zambian Defense Force and the US Department of Defense, this partnership is working to improve HIV treatment and care for military personnel and their families. Focus areas include increasing access to VCT services and care in rural settings, as well as improving access to evidence-based medical resources through information and communication technologies.

Partners are working to improve ART and related care for children living with HIV by training pharmacists at two Pediatric HIV/AIDS Centers of Excellence and better integrating them into HIV care teams.
